Known Issues
Updated: June 13, 2007
The following are known issues with this beta release:
- If there are problems logging in via the contacts control, the user should delete all their cookies. Note this requires the user to re-enter user and password information for web sites which store this information in cookies so caution is required.
- Installing Internet Explorer 7, then uninstalling it back to Internet Explorer 6 may cause the Windows Live Contacts control to be non-functional. To resolve this, the user should go to Tools | Internet Options | Security in Internet Explorer, and select Internet and click 'Default Level'. If this doesn't resolve the problem, then go to Tools | Internet Options | Security in Internet Explorer, and select Internet and click ‘Custom Level’. In the Security Settings dialog that comes up, find ‘Navigate sub-frames across different domains’ and click Enable.
- When a site that hosts the Windows Live Contacts control is added to a user’s trusted sites list in Internet Explorer, the user will get numerous security warning dialogs when viewing the site. This is because the Microsoft servers which supply contact information are not in the trusted sites list even though the host site is. These security warning dialogs are by design to make the user fully aware of this situation. To resolve this problem, the user should remove the host site from their trusted sites list or add dev.live.com AND contacts.msn.com to their trusted sites list.
- Although known to function, having multiple contacts controls on the same page is not supported.
- Tile View: The contacts presence and instant messenging capabilities only function in Internet Explorer.
- Tile View: We have seen failures in Tile View due to latency in server communication. If a failure occurs where the email icon does not appear, or presence icons do not appear after a minute, please refresh the browser page.
- Tile View: Double byte characters are known to get corrupted in emails on Windows XP due to encoding limitations. This scenario functions properly for single byte characters, as well as for all characters on Windows Vista. See: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2007/02/12/International-Mailto-URIs-in-IE7.aspx for more information.
- List View: The layout of the contacts control is still being improved to support other languages. Although language strings are provided, there will be text that crop and controls that end up hidden due to text length. Please try adjusting the size of the contacts control to fix.
- List View: In some cases, a pop-up blocker will prevent a user from seeing the confirmation dialogue to write new data to his/her contact list. To resolve this, a user needs to add dev.msn.com to their allowed sites (in Firefox 1.5-"Tools|Options|Content|Allowed Sites"; in IE -"Tools|Options|Privacy|Settings").
- List View: Although Netscape 8.1 is not currently on our list of supported configurations, preliminary testing has shown that the control will work in List View if you choose to have Netscape use Internet Explorer as its rendering engine.
The following configurations are supported:
- Internet Explorer 6 with service packs on Windows XP SP2
- Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista
- Firefox 1.5 on Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista
- Firefox 2.0 on Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista
